Job Search
The Department of German at The University of Iowa invites applications for a visiting appointment at the assistant professor level, to begin in August 2008. This is a three-year non-tenure-track position with an initial appointment for 2008-09. Given positive performance reviews, the appointment is renewable for two additional academic years, ending in May 2011.
The area of specialization for this position is open. Full time teaching load is six courses per academic year. Courses to be taught may include composition/conversation, introduction to literature, German cultural history, German literature/culture for majors, large English language classes related to aspects of German culture, and a possible graduate course closely related to the candidate’s areas of expertise.
Ph.D. in German expected by time of appointment; ABD will be considered for appointment at the rank of Instructor. Native or near-native fluency in German required.
Salary is dependent on candidate’s experience and credentials.

Kaffeestunde is the German Department's weekly coffee and conversation hour, held Tuesdays from 3:15 to 4:30 in 612 Phillips Hall. This is an excellent opportunity to practice speaking German with students, professors, and people from the community in a relaxed, informal atmosphere. The German Department's Fußballmeisterschaft is a biannual event, which started in the 2004-5 school year, and is held during the Fall and Spring semesters. Many of the lower and upper level German classes enter a team, make a team t-shirt and give up one Saturday in order to determine who will be the champion. There is always a great turn out and the students have a lot of fun. |
