Join the University of Iowa and the international community in celebrating the successes of clubfoot research and treatment all over the world. On Friday October 14th at 4:30, the Ponseti Races will kick off a weekend of an International Clubfoot Symposium hosted here in Iowa City.  A 5k race will start and finish at the UI Recreation Center, joining with a race of children previously treated by Dr. Ponseti.  Event is complete with food, drinks, entertainment, and great prizes.

Iowa’s own Dr. Ponseti pioneered a non-surgical method in treating infant clubfoot, the most common genetic birth deformity.  Since the method’s inception nearly 50 years ago, over 100,000 children have been corrected and able to lead perfectly normal lives.  At 95, Dr. Ponseti still enthusiastically treats patients and trains others. During the annual Ponseti International Symposium, health professionals come to learn and share strategies in spreading clubfoot treatment to children everywhere.  Funds raised at the race go towards treatment for babies otherwise unable to afford the procedure.

Special guests include Hawkeye athletes, coaches, and surprise celebrities. Register online as an individual, team, or volunteer at Ponseti.info/races.
