Small-area Indicators for Urban Housing, Environment and Child Health in India & NigeriaThis project is one of six projects supported by a contract between The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and The University Consortium for Geographic Information Sciences (UCGIS). The purpose of the program was to further international cooperation between U.S. Universities and institutions in developing countries aimed at developing applications of GIS-based urban indicators for urban policy research. The project seeks to develop a web-based training program on the application of geographic information systems to urban housing, environment and vital statistics data for small areas of cities in India and Nigeria. The instructional modules in this series are designed for students and professionals interested in health in communities who want to be able to use GIS in practical situations around the globe. Through the exercises in the modules you will learn progressively more detailed and useful ways to examine your health and environment data using GIS to improve the health of people and their environment. Data sets are provided for each exercise but users are encouraged to follow through by providing their own datasets.
