Dr. Colin King is a social science scholar and Project manager of the Martin Shaw King Trust at Goldsmith College at the University of London. His book, Offside Racism: Playing the White Man, examined the privileges held by white men, and the way they colonize the soccer environment in coaching and management that lead to different forms of racism and exclusion in England's professional soccer leagues. He constructed an innovative methodological approach about the ways former soccer players experienced racism and developed their place in the social world of soccer. Combined with numerous oral interviews, King highlighted the unseen pressures placed on black players in their relationships with whites in soccer who try to make the transition from being a player to becoming a coach or manager in the late 1990s. The Martin Shaw King Trust is a community organization aimed at countering racial inequality in media and sport, and organizes conferences and lecture series throughout the United Kingdom. The King Trust has also created auxiliary organizations like "Kick It Out," a body that campaigns against racism in football.
