ORGANIZATION
The
Board of Regents is solely
responsible for legislative policy making for the Regent universities.
Under its overall governance authority, it organizes the legislative
liaison activities of the universities. These activities are vital to
the continued academic and fiscal well-being of the institutions and
public higher education in Iowa. Such activities involve complex questions
of public policy, regental responsibility, institutional objectives,
and budgetary considerations. At The University of Iowa, the legislative
liaison representatives are based in The University of Iowa's Office
of Governmental Relations.
The Special Assistant
to the President for Governmental Relations has general supervision
of governmental relations activities and direct responsibility for federal
relations. The State Relations Officer has direct responsibility
for state relations. The governmental relations on-campus coordinator
provides administrative support and coordination of responses to Board
Office and legislative inquiries, on-campus visits by governmental officials,
visits to governmental offices; and special events and projects to further
the mission of the office. They are assisted by one full time support
staff dedicated to state relations and electronic website management,
and one part time secretary with shared responsibilities for state and
federal relations and the Office of Finance and University Services.
