Job placement facts for recent UI Ph.D. students: University of Iowa Ph.D. recipients have been very successful on the job market. Of students receiving their degrees between 2003 and 2009, some 90% are employed in the field, including 80% in post-secondary teaching, of whom the large majority are in tenure-track positions. This is more than double the average placement rate for PhD-granting programs in history. Recent Ph.D.s have obtained tenure-track positions at: University of Wisconsin (Madison), Kent State (Ohio), University of Missouri (Columbia), University of London (UK), Northeastern University (Boston, MA), University of Hawaii at Mānoa (Honolulu), University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa), Clayton State University (Morrow, GA), Gallaudet University (Washington, DC), Purdue University (West Lafayette, IN), University of Wisconsin-Parkside (Kenosha), and Denison University (Granville, OH). Additionally, graduates from the program have received prestigious post-docs such as the Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowship at UCLA, and non-teaching historical positions such as Assistant Editor, Freedmen and Southern Society Project, University of Maryland, College Park, MD.
