How do I add or drop a Health and Physical Activity Skills course?

Prior to the first day of class, a Health and Physical Activity Skills course can be added or dropped through ISIS.   After the first day of class, you will need the instructor’s signature and the signature of your advisor to drop or add.   If you have a legitimate excuse for dropping or adding after the deadline, the signature of the Health and Physical Activity Skills Director, Amy Fletcher, is also needed.  You should contact Amy Fletcher at 335-8637 or email at amy-fletcher@uiowa.edu to schedule an appointment to discuss your situation.

If a course is full,  you may attend the course on the first day of class to see if it is possible to add.  The Health and Physical Activity Skills Program tries to accommodate as many students as possible, but we are often limited by space and the need to maintain an adequate student-to instructor ratio.

Please note that Health and Physical Activity Skills courses are considered “off-cycle” courses since they do not meet for the full duration of the semester.  Specific deadlines for adding/dropping courses can be found at http://www.registrar.uiowa.edu/more/coursedeadlines.aspx.

What is the process to add or drop a Health and Physical Activity Skills course using a add/drop slip?

Once classes have begun, a course may be added or dropped before the Registrar's deadlines using a Change of Registration form.  You will need the instructor’s and you advisor’s signature.  The signed form should be submitted to the Registrar’s Service Center, 17 Calvin Hall, before the add or drop deadline.  Students will not be allowed to add a Health and Physical Activity Skills course after the first week of class.

I need to drop a course but it is after the drop deadline, what can I do?

Like all other courses at the University of Iowa, if you wait too long to drop, you will receive a W or an F in the course.  Under exceptional circumstances, late drops may be approved.  You should contact the Health and Physical Activity Skills Director, Amy Fletcher, at 335-8637 or email at amy-fletcher@uiowa.edu to discuss your situation.   Please be prepared to provide appropriate documentation regarding your need for a late drop.

ISIS indicates that a Health and Physical Activity Skills course is full, can I still add?

You should check ISIS periodically to see if there is an opening in the course.  If you are not successful in adding through ISIS, you can try to add on the first day of the session by attending the course and asking the the instructor if there is room to add.

Can I add my name to a waiting list for a Health and Physical Activity Skills course?

Why isn’t ______ offered this semester?

The Health and Physical Activity Skills Program tries to accommodate student needs.  However, Health and Physical Activity Skills course offerings are limited by our instructor availability and expertise, as well as weather conditions.  This means that some courses may not be available every semester.

Can I repeat the same Health and Physical Activity Skills course (e.g., Jogging I)?

A Health and Physical Activity Skills course cannot be repeated for academic credit.  Some activities are offered as sequential courses and are considered unique courses, e.g., Jogging I, Jogging II, Volleyball I, Volleyball II.   It is possible to repeat a Health and Physical Activity Skills course, but you would not earn credit for the course the second time.  You would be charged tuition and if you failed a repeat course, it would affect your GPA.
