Fall Retreat for Black Men

Including sessions on building community, expanding consciousness, and finding mentors, the Fall Retreat for Black Men strives to equip new and returning undergraduates with strategies for total success on the University of Iowa campus. Beyond introducing students to the individual members and the programming of the Hubbard Group, this Retreat will also give its attendees in-depth information from an illustrious group of speakers and panelists.
The keynote presenter for the Retreat is Eddie Moore, Jr. Presently the director of Diversity at the Bush School in Seattle, Dr. Moore previously was the director of Intercultural Life at Central College in Pella, Iowa. He is renowned for his dynamism and for his extensive study of the complex issues in college life. In addition to Dr. Moore, the Retreat will also feature presentations by former University of Iowa football coach, Carl Jackson, co-founder of dangerousNegro clothing line, Demetrius Walker, civic-minded University of Iowa alumnus, Orville Townsend, Iowa City/Coralville lawyer, Melvin Shaw, and University of Iowa graduate students, Ahmad Washington and Derrais Carter.
