Humanities Iowa, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, granted $1,812 to the Keokuk Area Convention & Tourism Bureau for the Bald Eagle Appreciation Days to be held on January 14-16, 2011 from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM at River City Mall in Keokuk, IA.
The event will include programs with the department of nature resources and conservation, educational programs, exhibits, Native American culture, and archaeology. According to project director, Kirk Brandenberger, the event honors the return of the American Bald Eagles to Keokuk’s Lock & Dam #19 for their winter hunting grounds. The event, which will occur both indoors and outdoors, is free and open to the public.
