Humanities Iowa, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, granted $1,000 to Loras College for a presentation by Iowa Poet Laureate, Mary Swander, of her play "Farmscape." The play is free and open to the public and is scheduled for November 13 at 7:30 pm at Loras College, in the Alumni Campus Center Ballroom.
"Farmscape" is a docu-drama written by Swander, a professor of English at Iowa State University, and her students. According Loras College’s Valorie Woerdehoff, the play will include volunteers from the audience to read lines from the script.
The play exposes the audience to aspects of rural Iowa life and includes samplings of Iowa wine and organic produce, visiting a bed and breakfast and a Hispanic cultural center, viewing restored wetlands and prairie, and more.
"Our organization is always pleased to bring the Iowa Poet Laureate, Mary Swander, to audiences across the state," said Humanities Iowa director, Chris Rossi. "She is a state treasure."
