Humanities Iowa, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, granted $2,670 to the Spencer Area Arts Council for the Fall Festival of the Written Word. The festival is scheduled for November 20 at 7:30 pm, November 21 at 11:00 am and 7:00 pm, and November 22 at 1:00 pm. The festival will be held at the Arts on Grand in Spencer, IA and is free and open to the public.
According to project director, Martin Arthur, the event will include Poet Laureate, Mary Swander, and Monica Leo of the Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre for a series of workshops, performances, and programs. A book fair with local authors will occur on the final day of the festival.
"Our organization is pleased to provide support this festival," said Humanities Iowa executive director, Christopher Rossi, "as it promotes an inventive way to enhance literacy."
