Humanities Iowa, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, granted $500 to Western Iowa Tech Community College for Iowa and the American Civil War. The event will be held on Friday, April 29, 2010 from 7 PM to 9 PM and Saturday, April 30, 2010 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM. Both will be held at the Cargill Auditorium in Western Iowa Tech Community College in Denison, Iowa.
According to project director Carolyn Ellwanger, the event will feature two presentations. The first will look at the American Civil war through the eyes of those who stayed in Iowa during the war. The second will feature Russ Gifford, a historian, who explores Iowa's relationship with the American Civil War.
"Our organization is pleased to provide support for projects that connect the experiences of Iowans that came before us with the history of our country," said Humanities Iowa executive director, Christopher Rossi.
The mission of Humanities Iowa is to promote understanding and appreciation of the people, communities, cultures, and stories of importance to Iowa and the nation. For more information on funding opportunities from Humanities Iowa, see its website at http://www.humanitiesiowa.org.
