2007 Research Team

The biographies are current as of February 2007.
Students
Tim Reilly:
Tim is a junior from Clifton, New Jersey, double majoring in Political
Science and Music. He has played trombone with the Hawkeye Marching
Band and is a member of the Phi Alpha Delta pre-law fraternity. Tim
studied in London for six weeks in the summer of 2006 through Boston
University. Upon graduating in May 2008, he plans to earn a law degree
and become involved in developing public policy.
Christy Cahill
Christy is a sophomore from Nevada, Iowa. She will graduate in May of
2009 with a degree in Political Science and International Studies.
Christy is planning on attending law school shortly after graduation, with
the goal of one day working for an international organization.
Kyle Carlson
Kyle is a second year student from Sioux City, IA. He is pursuing majors
in Physics, Mathematics, and Astronomy. In the summer of 2006 he was a full time research assistant
in the University of Iowa Physics & Astronomy Department. He will
graduate in May 2009 and plans attend graduate school to obtain an
advanced degree.
Michael Appel
Michael is a first year student from Coralville, Iowa. He is a member of
the Mock Trial Team here at the University of Iowa. Michael is pursuing
a degree in Political Science, a minor in Spanish, and an international
business certificate; he will graduate in May of 2010, after which he plans
to attend law school.
Ann Gronlund
Ann is a junior from LeClaire, Iowa. She is mentor in the Planning for
College Success program. She is a member of the National Society
of Collegiate Scholars, the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society, and
the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity. She will graduate in May 2008
with a B.S. in Political Science and a minor in Psychology. After
graduation she is planning to attend law school.
Adam Matheson
Adam is a junior from Plymouth, Minnesota. Adam is the president of
Hillcrest Association, the governing body of Hillcrest dormitory. He
will graduate in May 2008 with a B.S. in Political Science and a minor
in Business Administration. After graduating, he plans on attending
graduate school for public administration with the goal of becoming
a city manager.
Kelsey Larsen
Kelsey is a second year student from Saline, Michigan. She is the
Secretary of Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity, as well as an Executive
Board member for the Honors Fraternity Phi Eta Sigma. Kelsey plans to
graduate in May 2008 with an honors B.S. in Political Science with an
emphasis in International Relations, as well as a minor in American
Studies. Upon graduation, she then plans to pursue a Masters degree
in Public Policy with the goal of eventually working within state or
national government.
Susy Hemphill
Susy is a junior from Des Moines, Iowa. Susy is currently a Resident
Assistant and enjoys volunteering at the Emma Goldman Clinic. Susy
will graduate in May 2008 with a B.B.A. in Management and a B.A. in
Women’s Studies. Her future goals include working in the nonprofit
sector or for a governmental agency.
Stuart Higgins
Stuart is a junior from Ottumwa, Iowa. He is pursing a degree in Political
Science, as well as a minor in Spanish; he will graduate in May 2009.
Upon graduation Stuart intends on attending law school.
Terra Wallin
Terra is a junior from Bettendorf, Iowa. She is a member of several
student organizations and serves as a resident assistant. Terra will
graduate in May 2008 with a B.B.A. in Accounting, a B.A. in Political
Science, and an International Business Certificate. She plans to work
for a large, public accounting firm in order to receive her C.P.A. and
then she will attend graduate school to study law and public policy.
Mason Kerns
Mason is a junior from Oelwein, IA majoring in journalism and political
science. He has worked as a sports writer, news reporter, and news
editor for the Pacemaker award winning UI campus newspaper, The
Daily Iowan, for two years. Mason has written extensively about pertinent
public and governmental policies and procedures, earning multiple
press-award nominations for both his daily articles and investigative
series'. Currently covering the state legislature in Des Moines, Mason
hopes to pursue a public policy-related career as a trial lawyer, First
Amendment attorney, educator, or political/legal journalist. Active in
basketball and golf, Mason also coaches a little-league baseball team.
William Storm
William, a native of Sioux City, IA, is at the University of Iowa studying
Classical Languages and Philosophy. After graduation he plans to continue
his study of Classics at a graduate level or attend Law School. In his
spare time, William teaches Latin at an after school program, assists
Eta Sigma Phi Classics Honor Society as vice president, and sings in
the University Choir. His hobbies include guitar and piano, music
composition, film production, and reading.
Jacob Donahue-Grossman
Jacob is a freshman from St.Charles, Illinois. He is a member of the Iowa
Mock Trial team and is working as a production manager for Children’s
Miracle Network. Jacob is pursuing degrees in marketing and is
designated as a Pre-Law major while certifying in "Philosophies and
Ethics of Politics, Law, and Economics." He will graduate in May 2010
and intends to enter law school shortly thereafter.
