Spring Undergraduate Research Festival

Saturday, March 24, 2012 (Iowa Memorial Union)

Registration is due by March 9, 2012

Students involved in research can present their work at the Spring Undergraduate Research Festival (SURF), held in April. This conference is co-hosted by the Iowa Center for Research by Undergraduates, University Honors Program, Office of the Vice President for Research, Office of the Provost, and the Graduate College. Students supported by an ICRU award will be presenting their research, but other University of Iowa undergraduates, especially those completing honors theses or projects, are encouraged to join the forum by presenting their research.

SURF allows students to highlight what they have accomplished, share their work with others, and gain presentation experience. Students present their work in a poster format, which is a common format used at professional meetings and provides an open forum for discussion.

Please see the presentation resources section for "How to make a poster."

We will have a poster space of 6 ft wide by 4 ft tall for each presenter.
In addition to the personal reward of presenting your work, we will recognize presenters with a variety of awards. Specific poster presenters will be recognized for outstanding, distinguished, and special achievement in the following areas:

Arts and Humanities
Mathematics and Engineering
Natural Sciences
Social Sciences

These awards will be selected during SURF by a graduate student panel and focus on the effectiveness of the poster in conveying the completed work. Awards will then be presented at the event.
