DDIS Staff

DDIS Staff Member Amy Boyse joined the DDIS staff in January of 2000. Her duties include processing orders in the Accounting office and providing assistance for DDIS subscribers. Amy resides in Kalona, Iowa, where she enjoys spending time with her family, reading a good book and listening to music.

 










DDIS Staff Member Donna Brus joined the DDIS staff in October of 1983. Her responsibilities in the division include: management of the human resource activities, supervision of the support staff, coordination of financial activities, contract/license negotiations, facilities utilization, serving as the editor of the World of Drug Information quarterly newsletter, participation in the development of promotional/user materials, coordinating exhibit arrangements and providing assistance to subscribers.

 










DDIS Staff Member Nancy Byers joined the DDIS staff in June of 2007. Her responsibilities as a Clerk Typist II include: data entry, record keeping, journal check-in, proofing abstracts and other database production duties. She is married and has two grown daughters. She and her husband, Robert, live southwest of Iowa City in rural Ollie, IA. She enjoys listening to audio books during her daily commute.

 










Barbara Campero has been with DDIS since 1986. She is responsible for proofreading/duplicating the microfiche, shipping the monthly updates and work orders, overseeing the proofing and correcting of the articles on disc as well as supervising database production students. In addition, Barbara also assists in other areas of IDIS database production.

 










DDIS Staff Member Mary Ann Cull is a Staff Pharmacist II who joined the DDIS staff in August of 1989 after graduating from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy with a B.S. in Pharmacy. Her responsibilities include indexing journal articles for the IDIS database and supplying information to IDIS subscribers. She also works with maintaining the descriptor vocabulary file. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, swimming and reading.

 












DDIS Staff Member Barb Gericke joined the DDIS staff in May of 1989. Barb coordinates and assists in the production of the database. These tasks include data entry, report proofing, making changes to the master file and other record keeping duties. She also serves as the functional supervisor for other production staff and back-up for the departmental secretary. Outside of work her family keeps her busy and she enjoys reading when she has time

 










DDIS Staff Member Brad Gilchrist began working at DDIS in 1988 during his third year of pharmacy school at the University of Iowa. He accepted a full-time position at DDIS in May of 1990 after graduation with a B.S. in Pharmacy. His current position at DDIS is Staff Pharmacist II. Since beginning his full-time career at DDIS, he has indexed over 30,000 articles into the IDIS database. Besides indexing, his other main responsibility is overseeing the acquisition, formatting and indexing of the new drug Summary Basis of Approvals (SBA's). Outside of the office, Brad enjoys a good book, golfing, biking, running and Masters swimming.

 










DDIS Staff Member Ron Herman joined the College of Pharmacy's Division of Drug Information Service as Director, Iowa Drug Information Network. As Director of the Iowa Drug Information Network, Dr. Herman leads the management and further development of IDIN's professional service and educational missions. He currently is a member of the Clinical and Administrative Pharmacy (CAP) Division of the College of Pharmacy and will continue to teach in the CAP Division — participating in drug information and literature evaluation teaching activities.

Dr. Herman brings more than 25 years of pharmacy experience to the position. An alumnus of The University of Iowa, he graduated with a B.S. in pharmacy, M.S. in clinical pharmacy and Ph.D. with a pharmacokinetics major from the College of Pharmacy. He also completed a pharmacy residency at the Iowa City Veterans Administration Hospital. Dr. Herman spent six years in South Africa providing pharmacy and drug information consulting services to the South African Department of Health and Social Welfare. His prior assignment in the College of Pharmacy included teaching in the areas of fluids, electrolytes, nutrition and the pharmacotherapy of burns. He taught in the clinical pharmacokinetics and advanced pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamic courses. In the clinical setting, he provided consultative pharmacy services to the patients of the Burn Treatment Center at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. In this capacity he applied and investigated the altered pharmacokinetics of drugs in the hypermetabolic burn population using various computational tools. He has been on the forefront of using technology in teaching and patient care. His abilities and experience in informatics will strengthen the Division's use of technology to improve health professional's access and use of drug information.

 










DDIS Staff Member Vicki Kee, R.Ph., Pharm.D., BCPS, is a Staff Pharmacist (Academic Research) at DDIS, where she indexes journal articles, and an Assistant Professor (Clinical) at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, where she teaches drug information. She joined the staff of DDIS in July 2003 upon completion of a residency in drug information at Idaho State University College of Pharmacy. Vicki earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Samford University and then worked as a retail pharmacist for a few years. She also holds a B.A. in English from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and has experience as a technical writer. When she is not at work, she is probably running, playing Scrabble with her husband, solving a crossword puzzle, reading a good murder mystery, eating at an Italian restaurant, traveling, or spending time with her family in Alabama.

 










DDIS Staff Member David Luck, Photo Specialist I at DDIS, participates in the monthly database production by preparing and capturing the journal articles on microfiche. The microfiche are scanned to produce the digital images for the Web and CD-ROM. David's undergraduate degree in photojournalism and his experience as a newspaper photographer help him solve the problems related to photography in DDIS's image production. David also has graduate degrees in art and makes jewelry and metal sculpture in his Iowa City studio. His work has won many awards, including two large sculpture commissions for Iowa's Art in State Buildings Program. He has shown his work in over 100 local, regional, national and international art exhibitions.

 










DDIS Staff Member Pam Mollenhauer joined the DDIS staff in July of 1992. As the Accountant for the division, Pam is responsible for providing detailed financial and statistical records and projections. She provides subscriber support through the processing of subscription orders, billing, and maintaining the IDIS subscriber database. She serves on several committees and coordinates mailings and promotional activities. Pam also oversees the ordering of all equipment, supplies and services for the division.

 










DDIS Staff Member Kevin G Moores, Pharm.D., joined the College of Pharmacy as the Director of the Division of Drug Information Service and Associate Professor (Clinical) in the Clinical and Administrative Division in August of 2005. He returns to the Division from Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions where he was an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice and the Director of Drug Informatics Services. Dr. Moores previously worked in the Division of Drug Information Service from 12/95-6/01 as an Assistant Professor (Clinical) and the Director of the Iowa Drug Information Network. Prior to that he was the Director of Drug Information Services at the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Pharmacy. He has practiced and taught in the area of drug information for over 25 years with an emphasis on evidence-based practice and primary literature evaluation in numerous pharmacy continuing education programs, didactic courses, experiential rotations, and in directing drug information/informatics residency programs. He has experience with providing formulary evaluation consultation to 5 academic medical centers over the past 25 years, supported the State of Missouri DUR board, and chaired the State of Missouri Medicaid Prior Authorizations Committee. Dr. Moores has written book chapters on the topics of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines and drug information skills for pharmaceutical care as well as more than 40 other publications in the pharmacy and medical literature. He has served on several professional boards, councils and committees on the local, state, and national level.

 










Ann Murphy joined the DDIS staff in 1992. Her responsibilities as a Clerk Typist include data entry, journal check in/record keeping, scanning and proofing abstracts and other database production duties.

 










DDIS Staff Member Dr. Nicola Sarrazin, R.Ph., Pharm. D., is a staff pharmacist who joined DDIS in May of 1997. Her responsibilities include indexing journal articles for the IDIS database and supplying information to DDIS subscribers. Nickie has a B.A. in Anthropology and Asian Studies, and also a Pharm. D., both from the University of Iowa. Originally from Maine, Nickie has resided in Iowa for the past 20 years and enjoys visiting family and friends "out East". Traveling, reading and gardening are some of her interests.

 










Mel Smith has been a staff member at DDIS since November of 1989. She assumed the scanning coordinator duties in September 2000. Her primary responsibilities are to scan and proofread abstracts for inclusion into the database and to coordinate the Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance program. She also assists with other office duties. Mel was the shipping coordinator for DDIS from June 1990 to September 2000 and also worked with microfiche production.

 










DDIS Staff Member Julie Tomash returned to DDIS in February 2000. Julie handles incoming subscriber inquiries and questions along with international and domestic exhibit arrangements, design and production of subscriber update information and the World of Drug Information newsletter. She also assists with database production and other tasks as needed. Julie and her husband, Scott, spend most of their free time attending their children's various school and extracurricular activities. When time allows, you will find Julie's nose in a good book.

 










DDIS Staff Member Dr. ThaiBinh TonThat, a registered pharmacist, joined the DDIS staff in 1984. She earned a "Diplome National De Pharmacien" from the "Faculte Mixte de Medecine et de Pharmacie" of Grenoble, France and a doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Southern California. Her responsibilities at DDIS include indexing articles for the database, providing assistance to subscribers and maintaining the disease vocabulary.

 










DDIS Staff Member Jeff Zear, Database Admininstration/Development at DDIS, joined the staff in 1990. His responsibilities include database application development and programming, network administration, web development and administration, desktop support and subscriber technical support.
