I-20. Be sure to have this with you when you board the plane.
Valid passport. Be sure to have this with you, too, when you board the plane.
U.S. visa. Have you applied for your visa to come to the U.S.? If you plan to bring your family, have you applied for their visas as well?
Airline ticket. Have you made your reservation based on the reporting date noted on your I-20? Do you have your reservation confirmed?
Cash, traveler's checks, or an international bank/ATM card. Do you have some U.S. currency in case of emergency and start-up expenses (meals, taxi, etc.) once you arrive?
Nationality organization contact. If you come from a country with an active nationality organization at The University of Iowa, have you contacted your nationality group to help you upon your arrival?
Admission letter and financial documentation (bank statement, letter of support, and/or scholarship letter). Be sure to bring these with you.
Appropriate clothing. Have you learned about Iowa City's climate? Be sure to pack clothing appropriate for the season. Students are also encouraged to bring one outfit of traditional clothing from their country to wear at the IIEP Final Ceremony.
Electrical adapters. If you plan to bring your own appliances (laptop computer, hair dryer, CD player, chargers), be sure to pack an electrical adapter for the U.S.
Travel insurance. If you plan to arrive before the month of IIEP registration, have you purchased some health and accident insurance that provides coverage until your University plan begins? Your University health insurance plan will begin on the first of the month in which you begin studying (August, January, May).
Phone numbers.Write down the telephone numbers (and e-mail addresses) of friends, relatives, and the IIEP in case you need them. Keep this list with you at all times.
Housing application. If you plan to live on campus in the residence halls or University Apartments, make sure to send your application form to the Housing Office as soon as possible.
Health information form / immunization record. You received this in your admission packet. Be sure to complete this form and have your doctor sign it.
Prescription medication. If you need prescription medication, be sure to bring enough to last for three months. If this is impossible, be sure to bring a translation of your medical history and prescription(s).
Personal records. Bring any personal records you may need, such as academic transcripts, a copy of your birth certificate, a copy of your marriage certificate (if applicable), and your driver's license.
