About Iowa

Iowa is located in the midwestern part of the United States and is bordered by the Mississippi River on the east and the Missouri River on the west. Known as the Hawkeye State, Iowa has a rich agricultural tradition and ranks first in the nation in corn and soybean production. It plays an important role in the presidential election process, as Iowa holds the first caucus of the election year. It is not uncommon to see candidates for public office giving speeches at town halls and public centers across the state.
