Dear student, The University of Iowa is in a small but very pleasant and quiet midwestern community which has an excellent atmosphere for study and enrichment. Our teachers are well-trained and hold advanced degrees in English as a Second Language. All have considerable teaching experience and most have taught outside the United States. Classes are small (typically 12-15 students), and teachers are able to offer individual help to their students whenever needed. A language laboratory is available, and cultural activities are an integral part of the program. Click on the following link for a printable application form: http://www.uiowa.edu/~iiepesl/application.html. Read all of the information carefully. Below are a few important points to note. 1. To apply to the IIEP, complete the entire application form and return it to our office with: a) a financial statement from your bank (or a scholarship letter) showing at least $8,250,
b) a check or money order for the $50 non-refundable application fee, $40 express mailing fee, and $250 tuition deposit, (The tuition deposit will be
credited to your tuition upon your arrival. However, if you cannot come, the
deposit will not be refunded regardless of your reason for not coming. You
may, however, transfer this amount to a later session of the IIEP.)
c) a copy of the passport
page that contains your picture and the exact spelling of your name. (If you
do not have a passport yet, please be sure your full name on the application
is spelled exactly as you expect it appear on your passport.) Many students live off campus. Housing is also available on campus, although it is limited. Therefore, you must apply as soon as possible. Please indicate on your IIEP application if you want housing application forms. We will then send you all necessary information so that you can make arrangements directly with the Housing Office. Please send your completed application materials and fees as soon as possible. This will allow us to process your I-20 form in time for you to apply for a visa and make travel arrangements. For further information, browse our website or write, phone, or e-mail us. We look forward to hearing from you soon!
Sincerely, Maureen H. Burke
