Letter from the president

This semester has been an adventure for the Iota chapter. Most of our members are adjusting to new things, officers are transitioning into their new positions, seniors are getting ready to graduate, and 5 new members were initiated.

The Iota chapter also was blessed to receive a CCD this semester. Caitlin Ross has been an asset to us by helping us out with whatever we need. In addition to Caitlin we have other alumni advisors that assist us in academics, recruitment, new member education, and philanthropy. We are still working on filling other advisor positions.

As the spring semester closes we are looking ahead to Fall Formal recruitment. We will be holding work week August 11th- 18th. Recruitment begins Tuesday August 19th. The structure has changed this year. The first day of recruitment will not be held in the chapter structure, but in various classrooms on the Pentecrest. The next three days will be at the chapter structure. Wednesday is welcome to our structure day, Thursday is what it means to be Greek day, Friday night is Preference night, Saturday is Bid Day, and Sunday will be the pinning ceremony.  We no longer do skits and recruitment as a whole is trying to be more casual and less stressful for the Potential New Members as well as our actives. If you would like to help us during recruitment please email our Vice President of Membership, Zoe Mayberry, at zoe-mayberry@uiowa.edu.

This summer the Iota house will be getting updated. Throughout the spring semester we have been working with National to get some new furnishings, decorations, and various other things to help update our house. This summer much of the  main floor and basement will be updated and in the following years the bathrooms will be getting redone, new carpet will be laid throughout the house, and potentially satellite will be installed in the bed rooms.

Our chapter has worked hard over the last year and we were recognized for it by receiving several awards at Tagarista. We placed 1st in the blood drive for Greek Week, 1st in the can food drive for Greek Week, and 3rd place pairing over all for the Greek Week Competition and individually we were a Gold chapter. We were paired with the men of Phi Kappa Psi. We also received the certificate of excellence in

Academic achievement

Philanthropy and Community Service

Leadership and Educational Development

Chapter management and operations

Self governance and judicial affairs

Out of the 34 chapters on campus, Iota was one of the four chapters that received the Fraternal Excellence award.  There is also a member that has received high honors this past year too. Meredith DeBoom was the recipient of the Truman Scholarship and Chi Omega’s Greek Women of Achievement awards. Two additional members served at the Director of Operations, Ashley McDonald, and Executive director of Greek Week, Pamela Taylor. This is the second year in a row that a Delta Zeta has been the Executive Director of Greek Week.

Iota has had an amazing semester. Our chapter doors are always open so feel free to stop by any time to see what amazing things we are working on next.
