Why go Delta Zeta?

We are the Iota chapter of Delta Zeta Sorority and we were founded at the University of Iowa in 1913. Since our being we strive to provide our members with a variety of resources that will help them excel here at the University and as alumni.

Our members enjoy the perks of academic mentors, socials, philanthropic activities, and networking opportunities throughout the campus and the community. Several of our members are involved in outside organizations such as University of Iowa Cheerleading, Student Government, Best Buddies, and S.T.A.T. Ambassadors.

We provide over 20 leadership positions within our chapter that you are able to hold as a first year. Delta Zeta also provides our members with countless scholarship opportunities, with scholarships ranging anywhere from $1,000-$15,000.

This year our chapter placed 3rd in the Greek Week competition. Our chapter was also awarded certificates of excellence in: academic achievement, Philanthropy and Community Service, Leadership and Educational Development, Chapter management and operations, Self governance and judicial affairs and Iota was one of 4 out of 34 chapters to receive the Fraternal Excellence award.

As a live out our members are provided two meals a week at the house. For our members that live in they are cooked 10 meals a week and are provided with a breakfast bar stocked with various cereals, bagels and breads. We have a cleaning crew that cleans our house throughout the week and a house mother that lives in the chapter structure to help us with anything else that we made need. We  require members to live in until we have our structure full. We are close to campus (7 minute walk) and a free shuttle bus picks up right outside the front door.

Throughout the semester we provide our members with several activities. Some of our sisterhood activates include; canoeing, ice skating, attending members plays, going to concerts, playing games, and other fun activities. We also spend time with fraternities. We have several alcohol free events such as BBQ's, Kickball, twister/football, movie nights, wiffleball, and so much more. We also have exchanges with themes such as 80's night, country night, my ties, Cinderella balls, and other various fun themes. We also have date parties, semi-formal, and formal.  Our community service chair also plans events such as habitat for humanity build, Valentine’s Day cards for the local senior center, and collecting cans for the local food shelter.

Our philanthropy is speech and hearing impairment and the Johnson Country Crisis Center. We paired up with a the men of Lambda Chi Alpha to do a Tetter-Totter-athon. We sit on a 16 foot tetter-totter for 72 hours and raise money and awareness for our causes. Last year we rose over $4,000.
