Designer
and writer Ann Barber is a senior majoring in journalism from Philadelphia,
Penn. Ann has interned at the Four Seasons Hotel in Philadelphia with
the director of public relations, where she learned about the PR industry
from a hotel perspective. She helps copy edit, design, distribute
and write the quarterly newsletter for the Iowa Consortium for Substance
Abuse Research and Evaluation. She is also a member of the UI chapter
of PRSSA. After graduation in May, Ann plans to work in public relations
in the Chicago area. |

Copy
editor and writer Courtney Howard is a senior majoring in journalism
from New Hope, Minn. She was on the volunteer committee for Dance
Marathon and is a member of Public Relations Student Society of America.
This summer she will intern with the National Sports Center in Minneapolis.
In the fall, Howard plans to go on a European Cultural History Tour
through 40 cities and 15 countries. When she returns, she plans to
pursue a career in public relations in the sports and entertainment
industry. |

Editor, web designer and writer Kate Braser is a senior majoring in
journalism and communication studies from Sycamore, Ill. She was a
public relations intern for Table to Table, a nonprofit organization
in Iowa City. Braser has worked on the staffs of Earthwords , an undergraduate
literary magazine, and the Riverfest Publicity Committee. She is a
member of the Dance Marathon Family Relations committee and has worked
as a writer and photographer for the Sycamore News. After graduation,
she plans to write for a magazine while pursuing her Ph.D. in communication
studies. |

Designer,
web designer and writer Amanda Huerta is a senior majoring in journalism
and political science from Soledad, Calif. She is currently on the
copy editing and design staff of Earthwords, an undergraduate literary
magazine. After graduation in May, she will head to the Bay Area to
teach middle school under an emergency credential program. In the
future, Huerta plans to pursue a career in newspaper writing, web
page design or online journalism for a political magazine. She will
eventually attend law school and pursue a legal career in Texas. |

Designer,
photographer and writer Abby Dohrn is a junior majoring in journalism
and religion from Maquoketa, Iowa. She is the Marketing Assistant
for Hancher Auditorium where she promoted Riverdance: The Show. She
is also the Public Relations Assistant for the Iowa Arts Festival
where she serves on the Global Village board. Dohrn is the Historian
for Public Relations Student Society of America. She also writes freelance
press material for local artists. After graduation, Dohrn plans to
pursue a career in public relations with a focus on the arts. |

Designer,
photographer and writer Amanda May is a junior majoring in journalism
and art from Jesup, Iowa. This year she has been on the arts editing
staff for Earthwords, an undergraduate literary magazine, and works
in the J-MC School darkroom. She has interned as a reporter and photographer
for the Jesup Citizen Herald and as a photo assistant at Reflections
Portrait Studio in Jesup, Iowa. After graduation, she plans to pursue
a career in photography for a monthly arts magazine or large metropolitan
daily. |

Copy
editor and writer Sandra Green is a senior majoring in journalism
with an emphasis on adult learning from Brooklyn, Iowa. She has worked
on the Muscatine Community College newspaper and two weekly newspapers,
the West Liberty Index and the Lone Tree Reporter. Recently, she has
conducted telephone interviews for the Epidemeology Department in
the UI College of Public Health. She loves feature writing, but she
also enjoys writing news, reading proofs and taking photographs. After
graduation, she plans to write for magazines or newspapers, possibly
in the health or lifestyle areas. |

editor, designer and writer Shawna McDonald is a junior majoring in
journalism and communication studies from Highland Park, Ill. She
works on the public relations staff of Earthwords, an undergraduate
literary magazine, and is a member of the UIs chapter of Public
Relations Student Society of America. McDonald has interned for the
National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders
and has worked as a public relations volunteer for Riverfest. After
graduation, she plans to work for a large public relations agency
in Chicago. |

editor, designer and writer Alexis Grund is a senior majoring in journalism
and English from Des Moines, Iowa. Currently, she works as a news
correspondent for The Des Moines Register covering university news
and was an intern at Newcity, an arts and entertainment weekly in
Chicago. She has been a metro reporter and copy editor for The Daily
Iowan and is also a part of Earthwords, an undergraduate literary
magazine. After graduation, Grund will be moving to Kansas City to
begin her career as a copy editor and designer at The Kansas City
Star. |

editor and writer Maria Nazos is a senior majoring in journalism and
English from Joliet, Ill. She has since lived in Ridgewood, N.J.,
Athens, Greece, and as of the last four yearsIowa City. She
has interned at various publications including The Iowa Advocate and
is a member of Kappa Tau Alpha Honor Society. She plans to attend
graduate school for a masters degree in creative writing at
Sarah Lawrence College in New York City. Immediately thereafter, she
plans to pursue a career as a full time writer in either fiction or
poetry. |

Copy
editor, designer and writer Karen Heinselman is a senior majoring
in journalism from Davenport, Iowa. This year, she worked as a metro
reporter for The Daily Iowan and a correspondent writer for The Quad-City
Times. Karen also interned at the State Historical Society in Iowa
City as an editorial assistant for Iowa Heritage Illustrated Magazine.
After graduation, she plans to work in publishing or write for newspapers
or magazines. She would also like to see the United Kingdom and Asia
and write and illustrate juvenile literature. |

Adviser
and editor Richard Johns is an adjunct instructor in the School of
Journalism and Mass Communication. In addition to teaching the Advanced
Media Design course (19:173) which produces the Iowa Journalist he
also teaches the Methods of Secondary School Journalism. The methods
course is a requirement for students or teachers seeking a journalism
education endorsement for their teaching certificate. Johns has been
a member of the J-MC faculty since 1972 and has been the Society of
Professional Journalists faculty advisor since 1972. He has also served
on the board of directors for the Student Press Law Center. |
