Two computer consultants, Jamie Matthews and Daniel Stout, joined the J-MC School staff in November.
Matthews served as the District Network Specialist for the Solon Community School District before joining the J-MC School as a Computer Consultant in late November. She was in charge of the district’s network and server systems in addition to offering general technological support.
“I knew the J-MC School relies heavily on Mac computers and that is what I am most familiar with,” Matthews said. “I saw the University of Iowa as a great way to learn more about technology and also as a way to get my foot in the door in this field.”
Matthews received her AAS degree from Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in the spring of 2002. In her free time, she stays busy spending time with her 13-year-old twin boys, Justin and Jordan, and her husband John.
Stout is no stranger to the University of Iowa or the J-MC School. Prior to taking over the Computer Consultant position in mid November, Stout was an Adjunct Instructor in the J-MC School and taught the Web Journalism Basics (19:130) course. He also worked as an Educational Media Coordinator at the UI, where he helped design, implement and maintain Web sites for approximately 80 courses each semester.
“I have always had a strong interest in media and technology,” Stout said. “This job is the perfect opportunity for me to combine those two interests.”
Stout received his undergraduate degree from the University of Malta, in Msida, Malta (Europe) in the summer of 1993. He earned his master’s degree in journalism from the UI and graduated in the spring of 2001. In his spare time, Stout enjoys reading, biking, playing the piano and keeping up with the latest technological news and trends.
Both Matthews and Stout are going to be very busy over Winter Break as they install new computers in the Adler Building labs and move faculty and staff computer equipment. They are also in the process of creating a new electronic file storage area, which would allow more space for students and faculty to store their work.
