Rex Chekal is a senior majoring in journalism and sexuality studies from Belle Plaine, Iowa. He is the graphics editor at the DI and has done freelance graphic design work for a local business. After interning in the fall of 2004, Chekal will graduate and plans to find a job in graphics/design.

Meghann Dowd is a junior majoring in journalism and communication studies from St. Charles, Ill. She was in charge of Alumni Relations for Alpha Phi. She also writes press releases for University News Services. After graduation in May 2005, she plans to pursue a career in public relations and freelance magazine writing.

Mary Fishburn is a junior majoring in journalism and communication studies from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She is currently working at the Iowa Alumni Magazine as an editorial intern and is also the editor of the Omicronicle, the publication for Alpha Phi Omega. She will be working at KCRG-TV this summer as a Community Affairs intern doing publicity work.

She also serves on the public relations committee for Phi Alpha Delta, the university’s pre-law fraternity. After graduation, Griffin plans to travel and attend law school.

Marlene Jessop is a senior majoring in journalism and communication studies from Ottumwa, Iowa. She is a design intern at the DI, an editor for www.thecollegepress.com and is active in the UI chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists. She looks forward to graduation in December and hopes to land a design job at the Colorado Springs Gazette.

Dick Johns is an adjunct instructor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. He teaches the Advanced Media Design workshop and also Methods of Secondary School Journalism for those students or teachers seeking a journalism education endorsement. Johns has been a member of the J-MC School faculty and advisor for the Society of Professional Journalists since 1972.
