REX CHEKAL Designer Photographer Writer Rex Chekal is a senior majoring in journalism and sexuality studies from Belle Plaine, Iowa. He is the graphics editor at the DI and has done freelance graphic design work for a local business. After interning in the fall of 2004, Chekal will graduate and plans to find a job in graphics/design.	MEGHANN DOWD Copy Editor Designer Writer Meghann Dowd is a junior majoring in journalism and communication studies from St. Charles, Ill. She was in charge of Alumni Relations for Alpha Phi. She also writes press releases for University News Services. After graduation in May 2005, she plans to pursue a career in public relations and freelance magazine writing.
MARY FISHBURN Copy Editor Designer Writer Mary Fishburn is a junior majoring in journalism and communication studies from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She is currently working at the Iowa Alumni Magazine as an editorial intern and is also the editor of the Omicronicle, the publication for Alpha Phi Omega. She will be working at KCRG-TV this summer as a Community Affairs intern doing publicity work.	MARLA GRIFFIN Copy Editor Designer Writer Marla Griffin is a senior majoring in journalism and English from Mt. Prospect, Ill. She currently writes for Focus, the Public Relations Student Society of America’s publication. She also serves on the public relations committee for Phi Alpha Delta, the university’s pre-law fraternity. After graduation, Griffin plans to travel and attend law school.
MARLENE JESSOP Designer Photographer Web Designer Writer Marlene Jessop is a senior majoring in journalism and communication studies from Ottumwa, Iowa. She is a design intern at the DI, an editor for www.thecollegepress.com and is active in the UI chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists. She looks forward to graduation in December and hopes to land a design job at the Colorado Springs Gazette.	EMILY MRAVINAC Copy Editor Designer Writer Emily Mravinac is a junior majoring in journalism with a political science minor from Bettendorf, Iowa. She is involved in Public Relations Student Society of America where she has done event planning and marketing. She also designs brochures and logos for her family’s business. After graduation she plans to pursue a career designing for a magazine or in public relations.
ABBY OLIVER Designer Photographer Writer Abby Oliver is a senior majoring in journalism and religious studies from Maquoketa, Iowa. She will graduate in May 2004 and relocate to Los Angeles as an entertainment publicist. She has done extensive work in this field during her undergraduate career. KRISTINA RSTOM Copy Editor Designer Writer Kristina Rstom is a senior majoring in journalism and English with a German minor from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She is currently working at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics as a student clerk in pediatrics. She also works at Access Direct, a telemarketing company in Coralville. After graduation, she anticipates starting a career in health care public relations.
SHELBI THOMAS Copy Editor Designer Writer Shelbi Thomas is a junior majoring in journalism and English with a religious studies minor from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Her reporting on the caucuses for www.IowaPresidentialPolitics.com appeared online and in several state newspapers. This summer she will intern at the Meredith Corporation in Des Moines for Midwest Living’s travel section and special interest publications.	DICK JOHNS Advisor Editor Dick Johns is an adjunct instructor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. He teaches the Advanced Media Design workshop and also Methods of Secondary School Journalism for those students or teachers seeking a journalism education endorsement. Johns has been a member of the J-MC School faculty and advisor for the Society of Professional Journalists since 1972.
