Dominating the polls
ABC News has been awarded the 2008 Iowa Gallup Award for Excellent Journalism Using Polls, an annual award given by The University of Iowa School of Journalism and Mass Communication and the Gallup Organization.
The award was given specifically for the ABCNews.com blog "The Numbers," which is written by ABC News Director of Polling Gary Langer. The site covers the practice of public opinion polling for issues both domestic and international. More than 150 entries dealt with gun control, the war in Iraq and polling methodology among other topics.

You be the editor
If you were a journalist asked to cover a news story involving one of your advertisers, what would you do? Would you bend to pressure from a company that funds you?
Students learned how professional journalists and non-journalists would answer these questions during the "You Be the Editor" panel discussion in Associate Professor Lyombe Eko’s Legal Issues in Mass Communication class on Oct. 13. The Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) helped coordinate the panel, and Dr. Jeff Stein, executive-in-residence in communication arts at Wartburg College, moderated.
