Students
James Adams
James is a sophomore from Lake Mills, Iowa. He is majoring in Political Science and is involved in Mock Trial as well as Amnesty International. He enjoys watching the television program Boston Legal and 1990's teenage romantic comedies. His fears included fear itself and Martin Lawrence films. He sees law school as a possible post-graduation option.
Sarah Claypool
Sarah is a senior from Williamsburg, Iowa. She is majoring in Political Science and plans to graduate with Honors in May 2012. Sarah has interned at the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration in Washington D.C. and spent a semester studying Spanish and International Politics in Seville, Spain. On campus, Sarah is active in Dance Marathon, women's club Ultimate Frisbee, and serves as secretary of the Political Science honors society Pi Sigma Alpha. After graduation, Sarah hopes to teach English abroad for a year then attend law school and pursue a career in international law working for a non-profit organization.
Shannon Holmberg
Shannon is a freshman from Bettendorf, Iowa, studying Political Science and Pre-Law. She is an active participant in UI Dance Marathon and hopes to study abroad and get more involved in service projects throughout her time at Iowa. After graduation, Shannon plans to attend law school and hopefully find a career in law for an international non-profit organization.
Liza Minor
Liza is a sophomore from Iowa City, Iowa. She is a double major, pursuing an Honors B.S. in Political Science and a B.A. in International Studies, with a minor in Spanish and a certificate in Sustainability. Liza is a member of the Dean's Student Advisory Committee for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and an Honors Peer Advisor for the Honors Program. She has worked on two political campaigns in Iowa and as an Honors Summer Guide for the University's Freshmen Orientation program. Liza plans to work in research on campus this summer to prepare for her senior projects in both Political Science and International Studies. Sustainability is a very important topic to Liza that is connected to all of her interests, and she plans to study abroad on the India Winterim program next year to study Energy for Sustainability. Liza is interested in working in Public Policy or with an international organization like the World Bank.
Liz Schorsch
Liz is a sophomore from Chicago, Illinois. She is a double major in History and Interdepartmental Studies, and plans to graduate in May 2013. During the academic year, she works as a University writing and rhetoric tutor and volunteers with different student organizations such as World Health Initiative and the Newman Center's Peace & Social Justice Group. The first thing Liz wants to do after graduating is leave--and teach English abroad in a foreign country while learning about different cultures. She hopes afterward to attend graduate school in some realm of Education (policy, comparative education, schools/culture/society, etc.). In the future, she hopes to contribute to improvements in the American education system (in particular, education equality), and to pursue her love of writing for the rest of her life.
Steven Shredl
Steven is a sophomore from Lemont, Illinois. He is a triple major in Political Science, Philosophy, and Ethics and Public Policy. He plans on graduating in May 2012 and attending law school.
Jordan Talsma
Jordan is a junior from Colfax, IA who is double majoring in History and Political Science. He is a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, which is the National Political Science Honors Society. Jordan plans to graduate in May 2012 with a B.A. in History and with Honors in Political Science. He plans to continue his education either by attending law school or graduate school, hoping one day to work for the state or federal government.
Katherine Valde
Katherine is a first-year student from Coralville, Iowa. She is majoring in Political Science and History with plans to graduate in May 2014. Katherine is a Freshman Senator in the University of Iowa Student Government, a member of University of Iowa Democrats, and involved with the University of Iowa Environmental Coalition. After graduation, she plans to attend law or graduate school.
Audrey Williams
Audrey is a sophomore Political Science and French/Arabic major from West Des Moines, Iowa. She is a member of the Iowa Andhi dance team, and she serves as Vice President of Operations for UI Model United Nations. She works as a Writing Fellow at the university, and she is involved in volunteering with Access 2 Independence and the Iowa United Nations Association. She is also learning Turkish and hopes to pursue research in Turkey during her senior year. After graduation, she plans to attend graduate school in Nonproliferation and Terrorism studies with the hopes of one day working at the United Nations or in the State Department.
Margaret Younger
Margaret Younger is a sophomore from Hockessin, Delaware. She is pursuing a B.S. in Political Science as her major, minoring in Philosophy and gaining a certificate in Leadership Studies with plans to graduate in May of 2013. This past summer she interned for the Communications Department of the Delaware Governor’s Office. During that experience, she was able to attend a number of events with Governor Jack Markell. On campus, she is the sponsorship chair for the American Cancer Society’s Colleges Against Cancer. After graduation, Margaret hopes to work in the federal government and pursue a postgraduate degree.
