Diwali 2009

Description:

Diwali is among the most glamorous and widely celebrated holidays throughout the myriad cultures of South Asia. Colloquially known as the "Festival of Lights," its radiance permeates cultures to create a sense of communal unity and an environment of joyous festivity. For the past fifteen years, Diwali has been a cultural institution at the University of Iowa, as the biggest diversity initiative of the Fall.

This year’s Diwali program will include a reception with catered Indian meal from Taj Mahal in Cedar Rapids. The show will feature a range of cultural performances from classical Indian music to modern Bollywood dance. Student and local dance troupes will be joined by renowned performers to make for an alluring display of cultural acts.

This function typically generates a crowd exceeding 800 visitors.

• IMU Box Office - Located on the first floor of the Old Capitol Mall or by phone at 319-335-3041 (IMU Phone Service Charge applies).

• Masala - Located on 9 S Dubuque Street in Iowa City.

• Claypot - Located on 925 25th Avenue in Coralville (Across from Olive Garden and next to HuHot).

• Taj Mahal - Located on 3939 Center Point Road NE in Cedar Rapids.  

The ticket includes dinner and admission to the show. 

Ticket prices are as follows:

• FIRST 100 Student Tickets (Available ONLY at IMU Box Office): $10

• General Admission: $15

• Reserved Seating (Available ONLY at IMU Box Office and Taj Mahal): $25
