Orientation

International students studying at the University of Iowa should consult the Office of International Students and Scholars for any questions/concerns regarding orientation at Iowa.

Housing

Several resources are available to help incoming international students locate housing options. There are general resources, such as university-based websites and community websites. In addition, the ISA offers its own housing website. Details and procedures for locating housing are shown below.

General Resources

The links below show housing options for Iowa City. These links are not directly associated with the ISA. Instead, they are community-based resources the ISA has compiled to help incoming international students locate housing options.

ISA Resources

The purpose of the ISA housing system is to help incoming international students locate housing and, if desired, find a roommate(s) with similar interests and/or background. If you are looking for an Indian roommate, the ISA housing system is a good resource to use.

To take advantage of the ISA housing system, please follow the procedures outlined below:

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR HOUSING:

1. Please access the ISA International Housing Form. Once you have filled out the form,

please click “submit.”
2. Your housing information will then be automatically sent to Rajiv Verma

(rajiv-verma@uiowa.edu)
3. Once your information has been received via the ISA International Housing Form, you will

be notified via e-mail and your information will be uploaded to the ISA Housing Website.
4. You may (hopefully) be contacted by someone else who is also looking for a roommate.
5. Also, please check the ISA Housing Website periodically to see if there may be a person

with whom you may be interested in sharing a room. The contact information of that

person will be available on the housing website.
6. Once you have found a roommate/housing, please e-mail Rajiv (rajiv-verma@uiowa.edu)

so he can remove you from the database.

IF YOU HAVE HOUSING AND ARE LOOKING FOR A ROOMMATE/SUBLEASER:

1. Specify “Housing Available” in the subject line of the e-mail and send to Rajiv Verma

    (rajiv-verma@uiowa.edu)
2. Please list the following information in the body of the e-mail:
    -Name
    -Contact information
    -Desired roommate/subleaser gender
    -Address
    -Type of housing (condominium, apartment, house)
    -Rent (specify all that is included)
    -Hometown
    -Date(s) of availability (i.e., May 16th, 2009 – July 31st, 2009)
    -Other potentially relevant information
3. Once Rajiv has received your information, you will be notified via e-mail and your

information will be uploaded to the ISA Housing Website
4. Once you have found a roommate/subleaser, please e-mail Rajiv

(rajiv-verma@uiowa.edu) so he can remove your listing from the ISA Housing Website.

Daily Transportation

If you choose to live off campus, like many international students, you may consider getting a city bus pass for your daily commute. Information about city bus passes and routes are listed in the following website, http://www.icgov.org/transit/.

Services

Airport Shuttling

The ISA provides shuttle service for arriving international students from the Eastern Iowa Airport (located in nearby Cedar Rapids, Iowa) to campus at the beginning of each academic semester. Please fill out the ISA International Housing Form and specify whether or not you will be needing transportation from the Eastern Iowa Airport to Iowa City. You will then be contacted regarding arrangements based upon your arrival time.
