"Lark and Termite" Finalist for the National Book Award in Fiction

Congratulations to Workshop alumna Jayne Anne Phillips. Her novel, Lark and Termite, was nominated for this year's National Book Award in Fiction. The award citation observes that the book is "elegantly, rigorously, and powerfully written," in a "language of remarkable precision."

Jayne Anne Phillips is the author of three novels, MotherKindShelter, and Machine Dreams, and two collections of widely anthologized stories, Fast Lanes and Black Tickets. She is currently Professor of English and Director of the MFA Program at Rutgers-Newark, the State University of New Jersey.
