Matthea Harvey and Mary Jo Bang Nominated for National
Book Critics Circle Award

Congratulations to Matthea Harvey and Mary Jo Bang, both nominees for the 2007 National Book Critics Circle Award in Poetry.

Workshop alumna and visiting professor Matthea Harvey was nominated for Modern Life, published in October 2007 by Graywolf Press. George Saunders remarked that the collection is "proof that there is wonder in even a dark time like ours." Mary Jo Bang was nominated for her fifth book of poems, Elegy, also published in 2007 by Graywolf. The book chronicles the year following the death of the author's son. Poet Marjorie Perloff wrote of Elegy, "I know of no contemporary elegy that has its power." Mary Jo Bang will teach as a visiting professor at the Workshop in the Fall 2008 semester.
