How to Apply for Graduate Summer Courses
Manuscript requirements for both sessions:
Poetry: 10-12 poems
Fiction: 2 or 3 short stories or chapters of a novel
Do not send the only copy of a work. Photocopies are acceptable and encouraged. Please do not send playscripts or non-fiction prose. These cannot be adequately evaluated for either poetry or fiction workshops. If you are primarily interested in writing for the theater, please contact the Iowa Playwrights Workshop.
If you want your manuscript returned, please also include a self-addressed stamped envelope large enough to accommodate your manuscript.
You must include a summer cover sheet with your manuscript. Click here to download a cover sheet (132KB PDF)*. Other downloadable application materials are not needed for the Summer Program.
Send cover sheet and manuscript to:
102 Dey House
507 N. Clinton St.
Iowa City IA 52242-1000
For students who are accepted to the summer workshops:
A Special Status (Non-Degree) Application to the University will also be required for those applicants who are accepted. We will send the appropriate form with acceptance letters.
Please be aware that acceptance to the summer program does not alter your chances of being admitted to the MFA program.
International applicants should contact an immigration advisor located in the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) early in this process to get advice on possible immigration document needs. Contact: email@example.com.
