20 (Session 2).
DATES:
Applications must be postmarked by February 11, 2013. Decision letters will be e-mailed to all applicants on April 1, 2013.
COST:
The cost of the 2013 Iowa Young Writers' Studio will be $2,000. This program
fee includes room and board, all instruction fees, textbooks, photocopying,
and
transportation to and from the Cedar Rapids airport or Iowa City bus station.
Once a student is accepted into the Studio they must pay a $200 deposit to
reserve their position. The balance of the fee is due June 1. There is no
cost to apply!
Q & A:
WHAT GRADE MUST I FINISH BEFORE I ATTEND THE STUDIO? The Studio is open to students who will have completed 10th, 11th, or 12th grade by June 2013. In rare cases we will admit an exceptionally talented and mature 9th grader.
IS FINANCIAL AID AVAILABLE? We are often able to provide financial aid to accepted students who can demonstrate financial need. Students apply for financial aid after they are accepted to the program. If a student is accepted to the program in early April, we will send the student a single page financial aid form for his or her parents or guardians to fill out and return along with their latest tax return. We will let the student know by the end of April how much aid he or she will receive, if any. We can’t guarantee aid, but every year we do give out aid to students who can demonstrate that they will have difficulty meeting the costs of the program for legitimate reasons. In rare cases we give out full tuition grants; in most cases we award partial tuition grants. Also, some financial aid is reserved for minority students and for Iowa residents. If you have questions about the availability of financial aid or about your ability to afford the Studio please e-mail us at iyws@uiowa.edu or call 319 335 4209. We're happy to answer your questions.
WHAT IF I HAVE TO CANCEL MY REGISTRATION? If a student cancels before June 1, the Studio will refund all but $50 of the deposit. If a student cancels after June 1 the Studio will refund all but the $200 deposit. There will be no refund of tuition after arrival date and no refund in the event of early dismissal.
CAN
I COMMUTE? The Young Writers' Studio is a residential
program. Local students must live in the residence hall for the entire program.
Classes and other scheduled activities are only part of the Studio; living
with other writers is integral to the learning that goes on here.
