Welcome to the New Year!

Greetings from the Student Organization Fair! Only three days into the new school year and your friendly JCA exec. board is already hard at working thinking up new ideas for the new semester. But don't worry, we still have the old favorites such as karaoke parties, sushi workshops, and movie nights in mind. Have any suggestions? Feel free to suggest them on the Facebook Group page, or e-mailing anyone from the exec. board directly!

The first meeting of the year has not yet been planned, but keep an eye out for an e-mail with the time and location. Hope to see you all soon!

Sushi Night is here!

Well, it's not here quite yet, but the second annual JCA and JSSC Sushi Night soon will be! If you haven't heard the news, it will be on Friday, April 4th from 6:00-9:00 p.m. in 315PH. So stop by for a while, and bring your friends, to learn to make, and of course eat, some delicious sushi!

This event is completely free of charge but donations will gladly be accepted. Additionally, we need some volunteers to help set up the event. If you think you would be interested in helping out, just send Amanda Marble a message on Facebook. Any and all help would definitely be appreciated!

Hope to see you all there!

カラオケ Night

みんなさんへ、

Thank you for everyone who came to Karaoke Night last night and got up to sing (or dance)! If you have any pictures you want to share, e-mail them to jcaofui@gmail.com and we'll post them here.

Next up will be a Sushi Workshop, and we're still taking donations if you're feeling generous. So please look forward to it!

お久しぶりです!

みんなさんへ、

It's been quite a while since the last update, but the JCA website is now up and running! Better late then never, right? So on to announcements: we've got two great events coming up in the next couple weeks to help you unwind from all that midterm stress.

First up, this Sunday (February 22nd) from 12:00-5:00 p.m. we have the Cultural Festival being held at the UI Field House. If you're interested in volunteering at all to let others know what the JCA is all about, be sure to show up at the regular meeting, this Thursday (7:00 p.m. at 612PH) and we'll work something out!

Secondly, next Thursday (February 26th) we're going to be having a Karaoke Night! It'll be in room 214PH, starting at 7:00 p.m. If you want to sing a song, make sure to let Amanda know! You can stalk her on Facebook, or just reply to this post.

They're both going to be really great, so hope to see you there!

Dating and Friendship - American Style! (Life in Iowa Series)

What does "friendship" really mean to an American? What does it mean to be "dating" or "in a relationship?" Can women really ask men out? If someone says they "will call you," WILL THEY? What are some honest answers about same-sex relationships in the U.S.? Do Americans run around having sex all the time just like on TV and in the movies? Do you have to change your own values and beliefs when it comes to relationships here? Come and participate in a workshop on how Americans perceive and experience various types of relationships. Discuss your own and American expectations in relationships. The session will feature panelists who will share their experiences – and you can share yours – about relationships in the United States. Wednesday, September 27th, 3:30 – 5PM, The Commons, University Capitol Centre (home to OISS).

All the best from OISS!
