The theme for the 1st Korean Film Festival was Introduction to Korean Films since few Korean films had been introduced in the University of Iowa along with Iowa community. We, Kolors, offered an opportunity to experience films, which have historical context as well as contemporary setting of present Korean society. The festival was not only for film scholars, but also for the people who were willing to participate in such an intercultural interaction. Through this unique event, we introduced Korean film culture by showing its domestic films in order to broaden our field of film and cultural studies into the new area.

Three of the films portrayed Korean society and culture during certain historical periods, before 1960s. The other three features were contemporary films, which have earned the most popularity according to Korean box office records.

We also presented a seminar with prominent Korean film scholars and celebrities from Korea. They included Min-Hwan Kim, a professor of Korea University, Gina Yu, a professor of Dong-Kuk University, Soo-Youn Kang, a very famous actress who has won prizes in several international film awards such as Moscow and Venice film festivals, and director Ji-Young Chung, one of the eminent Korean film directors.
