Welcome to the 4th Korean Film Festival.

This year, Kolors proudly presents you with seven extraordinary films that have received much applause from audience and critics all over the world. This year's event is especially meaningful for Kolors (and hopefully for our audience too) in that for the first time in our four years of Korean Film Festivals, we decided to talk about North Korea. Facing the current political situation surrounding North Korea, and the release of the new James Bond movie that provides us with false images of the country, we Kolors thought that it was about time we make our voices heard and provide our audience with better understanding of this country (All Kolors members are from South Korea).

We, as the providers of the Korean Film Festival, cannot do more than merely show films to you but we hope this could change the perspective of some people in the Iowa City/Coralville community about North Korea. It is at our best interest that many of our audience experience this country called North Korea and achieve a better understanding of it by watching our films.

Along with our discussion about the North and South Korea, Kolors is in its first year of presenting the Retrospective Screening of Korean Directors. Director Lee Chang Dong (who was designated as the Minister of Culture and Tourism in Korea just two months ago), had been unanimously voted by the members of Kolors as our first guest. He was awarded the Best Director at Venice International Film Festival last year for directing 'Oasis' and is one of the most loved Korean directors of our times. As a means of celebrating his honorable award, and introducing some more of his masterpieces, Kolors will be screening three films by Lee Chang Dong. It is to our regret, however, that we cannot have him here at Iowa City due to the fact that he took office as a minister in the new Korean government.

We now call upon our audience to take part in this year's celebration. It is your turn to come enjoy some of the finest Korean films ever made. Do not hesitate to give us feedback on what you think of the films because Kolors Korean Film Festival cannot go on without your support.

Finally, we thank all our sponsors and volunteers who supported us in various ways.

We also thank you for taking your time to become part of our festival.

Thank you.
