KOREAN LANGUAGE OVERVIEW
Korean is a language spoken natively by around 80 million Korean speakers living on the Korean peninsula, both North and South Koreans andby large groups in the United States, Japan, China and Russia as a heritage language worldwide. Also because of its economical success and the recent popularity of South Korean popular cultures an ever-increasing number of non-Koreans worldwide are learning as a foreign language. Korean is the thirteenth-largest language in the world in terms of the number of speakers among over 3,000 languages existing on the globe. However, in terms of the number of internet sites Korean is rated as the sixth-largest language on the world wide web.

KOREAN LANGUAGE COURSES at the UNIVERSITY of IOWA
Korean Language in the Department of Asian Languages and Literature, offers First and Second Year Korean at the University of Iowa. Since there are diverse needs of Korean language studens to improve their Korean with the practical language skills necessary to function in an internationalized environment, the Korean language courses are designed for achieving culturally appropriate communication in emphasis among the four language skills of speaking, reading, writing, and listening. Also during the semester, Korean courses offer students cultural activities such as Korean movie screening, oral presentation (skit), and language exchange with native speakers.
