The basic purpose of the book is to serve as a useful tool for lawyers who are confronted with questions of Iowa tort law, to give lawyers a general understanding of the applicable rules in various areas of Iowa tort law, and to serve as a starting point for further research and analysis of particular questions of Iowa tort law.
The fourth edition of the Iowa Tort Guide is a complete update of what has happened in Iowa tort law over the last seven years in the 21 areas or chapters covered by the 1986 edition of the Iowa Tort Guide. The book also adds three new chapters on vitally important areas of Iowa tort law: bad faith claims against insurance companies, claims for loss of consortium, and claims against those who sell or furnish intoxicating liquors. The book contains up-to-date citations in major areas of tort law citing, for the most part, the leading, most recent, and most illustrative cases covered by the book's 24 chapters. It contains numerous citations to A.L.R. articles and related commentaries which have appeared in the Iowa Law Review and the Drake Law Review. Numerous references to the RESTATEMENT (SECOND) OF TORTS are also made in this book largely because the Iowa Supreme Court has been placing heavy reliance on the RESTATEMENT in articulating Iowa tort law.
