David Eichmann, Director/Associate Professor, david-eichmann@uiowa.edu

Dr. Eichmann's research interests lie in the general area of information systems, particularly representation and retrieval. He is currently active in the adaptive filtering of newswire stories, question answering, and Web-based retrieval. These areas are complemented by work in image retrieval and video segmentation - providing a rich set of media prototypes, which he uses in his work in adaptive Web search agents.

James Elmborg

Dr. Elmborg's research interests focus around libraries as centers for teaching and learning. He works primarily in the area of academic librarianship. Specific interests include Information Literacy programming, pedagogy, and instructional technology.

Marc Light

Dr. Light's research focuses on combining statistical modeling, natural language processing, and information retrieval.

Christine Pawley
, Associate Professor, christine-pawley@uiowa.edu
Dr. Pawley researches the history of readers and reading in nineteenth and twentieth century North America. Her book, Reading on the Middle Border: the Culture of Print Late Nineteenth Century Osage, Iowa, was published by the University of Massachusetts Press in April, 2001. She is currently researching the history of print culture in Cold War Wisconsin, focusing particularly on the Door-Kewaunee Regional Library Demonstration of 1950-1952.

Jennifer Burek Pierce, Assistant Professor, jennifer-burek-pierce@uiowa.edu

Dr. Pierce studies historic sexual and reproductive health texts. Of particular interest are works from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries addressed to women and adolescent readers. Questions posed by her research involve scientific and cultural norms that affect access to health information, government roles in health information dissemination, and the transmission of scientific and medical information about sexuality to lay audiences via popular magazines and other venues.

Padmini Srinivasan

Dr. Srinivasan's research focuses on formal models for information retrieval, query expansion using domain vocabularies, information extraction and text mining, with particular emphasis on applications in health informatics.

Ethel Bloesch
, Lecturer, ethel-bloesch@uiowa.edu

As Assistant to the Director, Ethel Bloesch coordinated graduate admissions, course scheduling, administration of comprehensive examinations, and alumni affairs. She also directed the annual Festival of Books for Young People and wrote the SLIS newsletter. Her side interest is music philately, and she is a frequent contributor to journals in this area.
