| Shortly after I finished Peace Corps in 1985, one of my best friends had his first son, and he honored me by naming him after me: Amadou Christopher Maïga. When my wife, Linda, and I visited them this past summer (1998), my namesake presented Linda w ith one of his sheep as a sign of respect for me. He did this entirely on his own, and it was a tremendous gesture.
