Instructions for Preparing Manuscripts for Consideration

Listed below are some general guidelines for authors submitting a manuscript to the Legislative Studies Quarterly.  For more detailed instructions, please consult the "Style Manual for Political Science" available from the American Political Science Association.  Eventually, if the manuscript is accepted for publication, authors will be required to provide two printed copies and a copy of the paper on a CD (PC compatible) in one of the following formats: Microsoft Word for Windows V7.0, Microsoft Word for DOS, or WordPerfect.

Manuscripts may be submitted in one of two forms: 1) Electronically as two Adobe Acrobat PDF files, one of them with all author self-identification information removed. 2) As hard copies in quadruplicate (three of them with all author self-identification information removed). In either form they should be double-spaced, with tables, figures, notes, and references on separate pages.

The manuscript (including tables, figures, notes, and references) should not exceed 40 standard pages, double spaced.

Include a 100-word abstract.

Double-space the entire manuscript, including the abstract, appendices, notes, and . references.

Use a typeface of at least 12 pt.  Manuscript should be left justified with margins of at least 1 inch.

Notes should appear as endnotes.

References should appear at the end of the manuscript and should conform to APSA style.  All works cited in the text must be fully referenced at the end of the manuscript.

Tables/Figures should have indicators within the text but should appear on separate pages at the end.

If the manuscript is accepted for publication, an electronic version of the figures must be provided, preferably in Microsoft Excel.

Include a daytime phone number and e-mail address where the author(s) can be reached in case questions arise during the editorial process.
