Shari RhoadsAmerican pianist and conductor Shari Rhoads graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Music degree in accompanying and continued her masters studies at USC in opera coaching/conducting. She was a student of Gwendolyn Koldofsky and furthered her studies with Dalton Baldwin. She has performed and worked with many of the most reknowned singers of the last 25 years including Montserrat Caballé, José Carreras, Placido Domingo, Ghena Dmitrova, Agnes Baltsa, Eva Marton, Ramon Vargas and Bo Skovfus. She has appeared at various summer festivals including Aix-en Provence Festival, Beethovenhaus, Bonn Germany, Vevey Schubertiade, Los Angeles Chamber Music series and the International Musikfestwoche in Luzern, Switzerland. Miss Rhoads worked as repetiteur/assistant conductor for two years at the Gran Teatro del Liceo in Barcelona, assistant to Chorus Master Romano Gandolfi, La Scala and at the Teatro de la Zarazuela, Madrid, assistant conductor to Garcia Navarro. From 1987-1990, Ms. Rhoads began her conducting career as assistant to Generalmusikdirektor Hans Drewanz at Staatstheater Darmstadt, Germany. She also served as musical assistant to Sir Peter Maxwell Davis in the world premiere of the opera “Resurrection”. In 1991, she became Kapellmeister at the Luzernertheater, Luzern Switzerland, one of the first American women to hold the title. From 1991-2000, Ms. Rhoads was also professor at the Luzern Musikhochschule and the Conservatoire de Lausanne. From 2000 to the present, Shari Rhoads is a member of the vocal faculty at The University of Iowa. In collaboration with Swiss stage director Georges Delnon, she is co-founder and clinician of “Mozart und Szenische Gestaltung”. The international master classes are sponsored by the International Musikfestwoche of Luzern Switzerland and the European Academy of Performing Arts, Musikhochschule Köln held in Montpulciano, Italy.
