Piano

The Piano Area at the School of Music at the University of Iowa is vibrant with artist-teachers who are active as soloists and chamber musicians. Dedicated to a comprehensive and versatile educational approach, the Piano Area offers intensive instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Doctoral program is among the most substantial in the USA and prepares students for rewarding careers in both teaching and in performance. The piano area is known for the personal attention students receive, supporting the individual musical interests of each student within the program of study.

Facilities for piano are excellent, with the School of Music exclusively a “Steinway school” where Steinway pianos are found in all concert halls, piano area rehearsal and practice rooms and all graduate assistant offices.

Undergraduate piano majors are taught by piano professors, not teaching assistants. Requests for a particular professor are honored pending studio size.
