Undergraduate Voice Admission AuditionAuditions for 2008 acceptance: October 20, 2007; February 15, 16, and 23, & March 1, 2008 Students are strongly encouraged to audition in person. Auditionees should prepare two songs of contrasting styles, one of which must be sung in English. Both selections must be memorized and appropriate repertoire for young singers wishing to train their voices in the classical style. Other aspects of the audition include sight-reading, pitch pattern matching and interview questions (e.g. what are your musical goals?). Auditionees should be able to demonstrate appropriate posture and stage deportment, breath management, tonal beauty, accurate diction accurate musicianship and artistic interpretation. If it is not possible to audition in person, the following must be submitted to the Voice Area Program Coordinator. For scholarship consideration, the audition package must be received prior to the final live audition date. Recorded Audition Package: 1. Excellent (“studio”) quality VHS-format videotape or DVD. There should be a close-up of the singer’s face for the first song, and a full-body (head to toe) camera angle for the second song. Attire should be concert or audition clothing. 2. Include an excerpt of another musician giving the auditionee a never-before-rehearsed 4-bar sight-reading excerpt. Along with the recording, please include a copy of the music used for sight-reading. 3. At the end of the recording, please include a verbal statement answering the following question: What are your long-term musical goals?
