Woodwinds

Woodwind majors at the UI School of Music are offered a wide array of academic and performance opportunities guided by a dedicated faculty of artist teachers.

The woodwind area maintains a series of guest artist master classes and recitals with artists from around the world. As well, woodwind students have regularly been the winners of the University of Iowa Symphony Band and Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competitions as well as the chamber music competition and the Iowa Council for the Arts Competitions. Numerous assistantships, fellowships and named scholarships are available to wind players, including the prestigious Himie Voxman Award, the Meredith Willson Award, the Rosheim Award, the Ester Madison, to name a few.

UI music students have gone on to take positions with major universities and institutions such as the University of Kansas, University of Wisconsin, Eastern Conservatory, University of Missouri, and numerous others throughout the country. Others have taken posts with organizations and orchestras such as Louisville, Seattle, Chicago Lyric Opera, Kansas City, the President's Own Marine Band, Orchestre d'Lyon, Rumanian National Philharmonic, and a full array of military ensembles and performing organizations throughout the country and abroad.
