  1. Welcome and introductions

  1. Additions/changes to minutes of the April 2005 meeting

Change to #5 in last minutes: “J. Bush will work . . .”

Change adjournment to 10:15 am

  1. Election of SRIG Chair-elect

Steven Moser was nominated and agreed to run for Chair-elect (Associate Dean, College of Arts and Letters and Professor Music, University of Southern Mississippi - bio provided on ballot). Requested nominations from the floor; none received. Steven Moser was elected by acclamation.

David S. Smith, North Central Division (bio provided on handout)

Laurie Bitters, Student Division (bio provided on handout)

Susan Helfter, University of Southern California, volunteered to serve as Western Division representative at the meeting.

  1. Website – Don Coffman

New, easier address: http://www.acmesrig.org. D. Coffman specifically referred us to the resources page: we can add more, but it needs some culling and organizing. Laurie Bitters volunteers to help organize the pate. If members want to add resources, send email to D. Coffman.

  1. Reports from Divisional Representatives

None. C. Bowles suggested it would be advisable to have division representatives report at each ACME SRIG meeting

  1. Report from the 2005 Music and Lifelong Learning Symposium

C. Bowles provided an overview of the successful symposium held in 2005. Twenty-two plenary sessions occurred. Six countries and 11 states were represented. D. Myers commented on the large number of young researchers who presented.

  1. 2007 Music and Lifelong Learning Symposium

Next event will be held in 2007 in Ithaca, NY in September 27-29. Susan Avery, Eastern Division Representative, will host this event. SRIG members who would like to serve as a panelist to review paper submissions, please contact C. Bowles.

  1. Topic suggestions for ACME in 2008 (Milwaukee)

A review of past clinicians/panelists for scholarly sessions was mentioned. C. Bowles opened discussion on topics and individuals we might invite. Suggestions include: having past chairs talk about research questions, inviting young researchers (recent doctoral graduates) to present their dissertation results (possibly over the past five years).

  1. Increased visibility at divisional levels

Discussion on what might be done to disseminate our mission/increase awareness. Interest in adult and community music activity – not specifically the SRIG.

Discussion on how to disseminate ideas on visibility to division representatives.

Ideas for Division Chairs:

C. Bowles suggested that J. Bush should send a note to the listserv regarding how to officially ‘join’ a SRIG (through the MENC website).

  1. Other business

(Steve Moser - Steven.Moser@usm.edu)
