By the end of the 19th century, white attitudes about Indians had changed and the courage of the fighting Plains Indians, celebrated in the earlier Wild West shows was widely heralded. The Meskwaki themselves embraced some of these attitudes as a Pan-Indian attitude had developed in America which crossed tribal boundaries. Many Native Americans wanted to absorb some of the respect and pride Americans had developed for the Plains peoples and adopted Plains styles of clothing, or incorporated plains designs into their traditional art.
