The
new exhibit transports Museum visitors back 10,000 years, to a period
of time shortly after the sloth's death...
Working like crime scene investigators, teams at the University
of Iowa have analyzed the evidence found at the crime scene, including
soil samples containing fossils of pollen, micromammals, and vegetation.
A re-creation of the sloth's habitat gives visitors a peek into
Ice Age life.
Interactive touch-screen technology provides a hands-on opportunity
for visitors to learn how the investigative team knew what the sloth's
habitat was like. This includes on-site digging, research conducted
at advanced laboratories at the University of Iowa, and carbon dating
of sloth bone.
