The NWP is home to Iowa's MFA Program in Nonfiction, which allows accomplished students to concentrate for at least two and more often three years on literary nonfiction, both its study and practice. The 48 semester-hour program culminates in a thesis that may be a sustained essay or a collection of shorter pieces.
Our program is a cooperative venture of the core faculty noted
on this site, with guest writers joining us regularly for intensive
workshops. From time to time, other members of the Department of
English also teach in the program so that shifts occur gradually
in the composition of our faculty. Several persons have taken a
turn as director, a position held currently by Robin Hemley.
