Midnight wasn’t this cute, fluffy little puppy from a pet shop. She was this scruffy, pathetic looking little puppy that was found in a ditch with her littermates and taken to a local animal shelter. Seeing her picture on the web, we knew we had to meet her, and it was puppy love at first sight! We definitely recommend adopting a pet from a homeless shelter. And who knows, maybe with Midnight’s humble beginnings, she appreciates us more!
Dogs have long provided us valuable services. They protect us and our livestock. They serve the blind, the hearing impaired and the physically challenged. We are learning how to use them in the health care field to sniff out cancers and alert people when they have a seizure. They sniff out bombs and drugs and, sadly, missing children. They can raise the spirits of a terminally ill child or a lonely senior citizen. They have taught many children and adults about trust and loyalty. What a great feeling to have someone always glad to see you even if you’ve only been gone for five minutes!
Midnight knows when our son just needs someone to be by his side and not say a word. She is a trusted confidant and never tells his secrets and has taught our son about discipline and responsibilities. She has always been there for him to play with, sleep with, and crawl on and to lean on. And sometimes, he gets to return the favor!
