There is a small but growing body of research on under-regulated and undocumented labor, greater emphasis on the plight of these workers by the United Nations and other international development agencies, and growing political emphasis on under-regulated and undocumented labor in the developed world. At the same time, our understanding of undocumented and unregulated labor is becoming more complex as most developed economies come to rely on unregulated and undocumented workers and researchers scrutinize our dependence on (often uncompensated) domestic and care-related work.

This interdisciplinary semester brings together UI researchers to reflect on and study research issues surrounding the global labor market for under-regulated and undocumented workers from a variety of perspectives.
