The Obermann Center's public partnerships bring together scholars and citizens for mutual benefit. Working closely with individuals, local government, civic and professional associations, museums and libraries, and churches and synagogues, the Center has developed a broad range of programs aimed at promoting town-gown collaborations: local and statewide public programs in the humanities; special programs and projects that focus directly on community issues and interests; training workshops for professionals. The Obermann Center welcomes inquiries from citizens and scholars wishing to initiate or strengthen public-academic ties.
The Obermann Center has a long tradition of serving scholars from the two- and four-year colleges and the universities in the Iowa region. Over 200 faculty members from over thirty institutions in the region have studied at the Center or participated in Center-sponsored collaborative research, education, and public programs. Many of these projects have been funded by foundations or federal agencies. In other instances, scholars have been supported by their home institutions.
The Center also maintains strong links with other interdisciplinary centers nation- and world-wide through the Consortium of Humanities Centers and Institutes.
